Our History
1869
The city regulation Assembly decided that 40 acres from the Vöde (grazing) shall be turned into the city park of Bochum, in English style greenery, for around 30,000 thaler.
1877
The old city garden and the restaurant were actually built on 52 acres in English style.
1913
Under the management of Prof. Elkert, the restaurant was rebuilt for 650,000 Deutschmarks and reopened under the name "Parkhaus", in the shadow of the 1909 built Bismarck tower.
1952
The restaurant “Parkhaus” is going to be one of the most popular excursion destinations in Bochum. The new entrance is under construction.
1988
During 1985 until 1988 the “Parkhaus” was renovated and in 1988 it was reopened by a new owner and with the new name “Gastronomie im Stadtpark Bochum”.
2006
Under a new management, comprehensive renovation activities are taking place. In August 2006, the restaurant opens again its doors with the new name „Orangerie im Stadtpark”, however, with the well-known individual service and selected menu.
2007
Opening of the Spanish bodega „La Escalera“ in the former bar „Treppchen“. Also the bistro garden experiences a renaissance and becomes again one of the most popular destinations of day-trippers in the Ruhr area.
